THE VOICE OF A BEE
Hi! I’m a bee. We have been in this world for more than 70 million years. We work hard to pollinate the flowers which produce around two thirds of the fruits and vegetables other species eat (including humans).
Since 7 years ago, our population has been reduced drastically in several countries. Now we are even moved around in trucks or transatlantic airplanes as we are becoming scarce. We have been diagnosed with CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder).
Many of my bee friends are sick and can’t find their way home, leaving their hive empty. We are not the only ones with this kind of disorientation problems. For example, the Atlantic Salmon is having the same problem.
After many years of research, humans found that what is affecting us are the chemicals that they use to protect the plants we pollinate (one of those classes is Neonicotinoid).
While some of those pesticides don’t kill us immediately, we take them home to feed our babies and our families, in humans it does the same, but as we are smaller the effects of those chemicals are developed faster, just within a few months.
Our friends in Japan are dying in an even shorter time. It may be because in Japan the allowed amount of pesticides in some fruits is around 40 times more than the allowed amount in other countries!
